A 65-year-old Burundian national, Kabura Kossan, has appeared before the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court in Dar es Salaam facing six charges, including unlawful presence in Tanzania, forging a National Identification Authority (NIDA) identity card and a voter registration card, using forged documents, and concealing the origin of proceeds of crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prosecutors told the court that Kabura was arrested on July 17, 2024, while residing in Tanzania without valid immigration documents. They allege that he forged a NIDA identity card and a voter registration card bearing the name Charles Ng’andu, before presenting them to police officers as genuine documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is also accused of concealing the origin of proceeds of crime, with prosecutors alleging that he used TSh 8 million to purchase 100 hectares of land in Mkuranga District, knowing that the funds were derived from unlawful activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because the charge of concealing the origin of proceeds of crime is non-bailable under Tanzanian law, the court ordered that Kabura remain in custody while investigations continue. The case was adjourned to a later date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
