Odrek Rwabwogo, the son-in-law of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and one of his senior advisers, has spoken out about governance challenges in Uganda, urging citizens to freely express their views on issues affecting the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rwabwogo said that silencing people who criticize government policies or raise concerns about leadership undermines national development. He argued that Ugandans should be able to discuss governance issues openly and without fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe must continue creating platforms that allow citizens to engage. They should be able to speak freely, without fear. You should speak without intimidation, because fear takes away people\u2019s ability to contribute. This is your country. Speak up,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His remarks follow a recent message in which he warned that the misuse of power through alleged torture, killings, electoral malpractice, and the involvement of the military in politics pose a greater threat to Uganda\u2019s security than external enemies or natural disasters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rwabwogo said Uganda\u2019s ambition to become a $500 billion economy within the next 14 years requires good governance, stability, and a society where citizens can openly discuss challenges facing the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that achieving rapid industrialization would require major investments in energy, noting that Uganda would need about 35,000 megawatts of electricity to support the country\u2019s economic transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He emphasized that development cannot be achieved when citizens are divided by conflicts, misinformation, or when people are prevented from raising concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rwabwogo also called on leaders to improve accountability and ensure that officials who perform poorly face consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although he is married to Patience Kokundeka, the second daughter of President Museveni, Rwabwogo has at times expressed views that differ from those of some members of the ruling establishment, including Museveni\u2019s son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rwabwogo, a businessman and presidential adviser, remains a notable figure within Uganda\u2019s political circles, and his comments have sparked debate over governance, political freedoms, and the future direction of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
