Iran: Former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Accused of Secret Ties with Mossad

Reports alleging that former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad maintained secret contacts with Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, have sparked controversy in Iran.
However, no independent evidence has so far been presented to substantiate the claims.

According to The New York Times, Israel had reportedly sought to establish contact with Ahmadinejad over several years, viewing him as a political figure who could potentially play an important role in the event of major political changes in Iran.

The report claims that Mossad operatives allegedly met Ahmadinejad on multiple occasions in different countries, including Hungary, where academic, scientific, and environmental conferences were reportedly used as cover for the meetings.

It further alleges that Ahmadinejad met with Mossad Director David Barnea, and that Israeli intelligence assisted him with travel arrangements and accommodation during some of those encounters.

The report also claims that following an Israeli airstrike in Iran, Mossad agents allegedly evacuated Ahmadinejad from his residence in Tehran to a secure location. However, it says the operation did not unfold as planned after Ahmadinejad reportedly left the location under unclear circumstances.

Despite the widespread circulation of these allegations, no independent evidence has emerged confirming their authenticity.

Ahmadinejad’s office has strongly denied the accusations, describing them as false and politically motivated attempts to damage his reputation.
The Israeli government has not issued a detailed response, consistent with its longstanding policy of neither confirming nor denying intelligence operations.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad served as Iran’s president from 2005 to 2013 and became widely known for his hardline stance against the United States and Israel.
Although he left office more than a decade ago, he has remained an influential figure in Iranian politics, at times publicly disagreeing with senior leaders of the Islamic Republic.

Political analysts say that if the allegations were ever proven with credible evidence, they would represent one of the most significant security and political scandals in Iran, where cooperation with Israel is regarded as a serious offense carrying severe consequences.

For now, however, the claims remain unverified allegations, pending any independent evidence or official information that could establish their accuracy.
