GOMA, Democratic Republic of Congo, Aug. 31, 2026 — The AFC/M23-appointed governor of Kivu Province has announced extended operating hours at the Petite Barrière border crossing between Goma and Rwanda, starting Tuesday.
Bahati Musanga Erasto, who was appointed governor by the AFC/M23 administration in February 2025, said in an official statement issued Monday that the crossing would operate daily from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. from September 1.
Customs officials and other services operating at the crossing have been instructed to take the necessary measures to implement the new schedule.
Petite Barrière is one of the main crossing points between Goma and Rwanda’s neighbouring city of Rubavu, used by residents, traders and other travellers.
The announcement comes as the AFC/M23 administration continues to exercise control over Goma and large parts of Kivu Province.
The Congolese government in Kinshasa does not recognise the parallel administration established by AFC/M23.
