Trump Accuses Iran of Violating Ceasefire After Drone Attack in the Strait of Hormuz

WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump has accused Iran of violating a recently agreed ceasefire after alleging that Iranian forces launched a drone attack against commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategic oil shipping routes.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Iran launched at least four one-way attack drones at ships passing through the strait. According to the president, one drone struck the upper deck of a large cargo vessel, causing damage, while three others were intercepted by U.S. forces.

> “Obviously, this is a foolish violation of our Ceasefire Agreement,” Trump wrote, blaming Tehran for breaching the truce.

The alleged attack prompted a swift U.S. military response. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces carried out strikes against Iranian missile sites, drone storage facilities, and coastal radar installations, describing the operation as retaliation for the attack on the commercial ship.

Iran, however, has not publicly acknowledged responsibility for the drone attack. Iranian officials instead accused Washington of escalating tensions and warned that further U.S. military action would provoke a response.

While Trump’s Truth Social post is authentic, several of its claims remain independently unverified. There is no publicly available independent evidence confirming that exactly four drones were launched or that three were shot down by U.S. forces. Those details currently rely on statements from the Trump administration.

The incident marks one of the most serious challenges to the fragile ceasefire reached between Washington and Tehran and has renewed concerns over security in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime corridor through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes. Despite the escalation, some commercial shipping has continued through the waterway under heightened security measures.
