Political analyst Professor Bob Kabamba has expressed concerns over the political dialogue announced by Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) President Félix Tshisekedi, saying that its real objectives must be carefully examined.
Speaking during Radio Okapi’s programme “Regard sur l’actualité de la semaine”, Bob Kabamba said political dialogue can serve as a way to seek consensus and address the challenges facing the country, but stressed the importance of closely monitoring how it will be organized and what outcomes it will produce.
He noted that the credibility and direction of the dialogue will depend on the official guidelines that will define it, the participants involved, and the manner in which the discussions will be conducted.
The professor recalled that, throughout DRC’s history, political dialogues have often played a role in reshaping the country’s political landscape.
He therefore warned against allowing such talks to be used for purposes other than finding solutions to the challenges affecting the nation.
The dialogue comes at a time when the DRC continues to face several challenges, including insecurity in the eastern part of the country, political tensions, and debates over the country’s future as the 2028 elections draw closer.
Bob Kabamba emphasized that for the talks to gain public trust, they must include various political actors as well as organizations representing citizens.
Analysts say the initiative will be a major test for President Tshisekedi’s government, as it could either become a platform for building national consensus or be viewed as a political strategy depending on how it is structured and implemented.
