The United States military has gone two consecutive nights without launching new strikes against Iran, as President Donald Trump’s administration continues to give diplomacy a chance in an effort to ease tensions between the two countries.
According to reports by Reuters, the Associated Press, and Axios, the decision followed President Trump’s order to temporarily suspend further military operations, allowing ongoing talks in Oman to continue.
The negotiations are aimed at reducing tensions and finding a solution to the dispute surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
The development comes after The New York Times reported that Trump rejected proposals to intensify military action following consultations with his senior advisers.
The report also noted that one of the major concerns for the US administration is the declining stockpile of Patriot air defense missiles, which play a critical role in protecting against aerial attacks.
Although the United States has refrained from carrying out new strikes for a second consecutive night, the Trump administration has not declared an end to military operations.
Instead, officials have indicated that military action could resume if diplomatic efforts fail or if Iran undertakes actions that Washington considers a threat to regional security.
Analysts believe the temporary pause in hostilities could help lower tensions between Washington and Tehran while creating more room for negotiations.
However, they caution that the situation remains uncertain, as both sides continue to prepare for all possible scenarios should the diplomatic talks fail to produce a breakthrough.
