Information obtained by Rwandatribune from an officer working with DEMIAP, who requested anonymity, says that 17 FDLR fighters led by Lt. Chaste have completed six months of training in operating unmanned aerial vehicles at the Kota-Koli training centre.

Kota-Koli is located in Nord-Ubangi, in northwestern DRC, about 90–100 kilometres from Gbadolite. The centre is a FARDC facility used for military training and to enhance the capabilities of soldiers.

Historical records indicate that in 1964, Belgium agreed to provide instructors and technical personnel to establish a Commando Training Centre in Congo. In 1965, Lieutenant Gaston Bebronne and a team of Belgian instructors began building the military facility at Kota-Koli.

From 1966, commando training was conducted on a regular basis and continued until 1990, when Belgium ended its military assistance to Zaire.

Reliable information indicates that after completing their training, the fighters will be redeployed to FDLR positions in Virunga National Park. Lieutenant Chaste Fidele is reportedly a member of the CRAP unit, which is responsible for operational activities and protecting FDLR leaders.

The completion of the training by the FDLR fighters adds to concerns over security in Rwanda.
