Supporters of Congolese opposition leader Martin Fayulu say three members of the LAMUKA coalition were seriously injured after his convoy was allegedly attacked by machete-wielding assailants in Kinshasa on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
According to the C64 coalition, the incident occurred shortly after Fayulu concluded a press conference at CEPAS in the Gombe district of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s capital. As he was returning to his party headquarters, his convoy was reportedly ambushed by a group of armed attackers carrying machetes.
C64 said three LAMUKA supporters sustained serious injuries during the attack and were rushed to Olympic Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Prince Epenge, a senior LAMUKA official, strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a serious act of political violence. He urged authorities to launch a thorough investigation, identify those responsible, and ensure they are brought to justice.
Supporters of Fayulu say the attack has heightened concerns over the safety of opposition politicians and their followers amid ongoing political tensions in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
At the time of publication, the DRC government and security agencies had not issued an official statement on the incident. The allegations have also not been independently verified.
