Rwanda, President Paul Kagame received his Beninese counterpart, Romuald Wadagni, at Village Urugwiro, as he began a two-day working visit to Rwanda.
Wadagni arrived in Rwanda on September 16, 2026, where he was received by President Kagame.
The visit focuses on strengthening the existing relations between the two countries and promoting cooperation in various sectors.
Rwanda and Benin cooperate in areas including trade and investment, technology, agriculture, urban planning, the modernization of government services, and security.
In 2023, when President Kagame visited Benin, the two countries signed 10 agreements aimed at promoting cooperation between them. Among these agreements was one on preventing double taxation.
Wadagni’s visit to Rwanda comes a few months after he took office as President of Benin.
He was elected to lead the country on April 12, 2026, winning the election with more than 94% of the votes.
On May 24, 2026, Wadagni was sworn in as President of Benin, succeeding Patrice Talon, who had completed the two terms provided for under the country’s Constitution.
President Wadagni began his seven-year term after spending 10 years as Benin’s Minister of Economy and Finance.
Although this is his first visit to Rwanda as President, Wadagni was already familiar with the country and its leaders.
In September 2023, while he was still Minister of Economy and Finance, he came to Rwanda as a special envoy of President Patrice Talon, delivering a message from the head of state who was then serving as President of Benin to President Kagame.
His latest visit comes as Rwanda and Benin continue to expand their bilateral relations, based on cooperation in areas including the economy, technology, governance, and security.
