DR Congo: Joseph Kabila Accuses Government of Collaborating with FDLR and Wazalendo

Former Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) President Joseph Kabila has criticized the military strategy adopted by President Félix Tshisekedi’s administration in response to the ongoing conflict in eastern Congo.

In a statement issued on October 9, 2026, Kabila said the government was continuing a war that, in his view, it lacked both the will and the capacity to win.

He also noted that recommendations and proposals he had previously put forward had been ignored.

Kabila accused the government of failing to respect the ceasefire provisions under the Doha agreements.

He further alleged that the authorities were collaborating with armed groups, including the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) and the Wazalendo militias, as well as other foreign armed groups. He also claimed that some of these groups were being supplied with weapons.

The former president also condemned attacks that he said were targeting civilians, accusing the government of refusing to engage in an inclusive national dialogue that would bring together the different parties involved in the conflict.

Kabila believes that resolving the security crisis in eastern DRC should not rely solely on military operations. Instead, he argues that political dialogue is also necessary to help achieve lasting peace.

His remarks come as fighting continues in eastern DRC, alongside ongoing diplomatic efforts and negotiations aimed at restoring peace in the region.
