Martin Fayulu has announced that he has accepted an invitation from the President of Burundi, Évariste Ndayishimiye, to take part in upcoming talks scheduled to be held in Bujumbura. The discussions aim to seek solutions to the ongoing political and security challenges in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Fayulu stated that despite the serious political and security problems facing the DRC, dialogue remains an important path that could help the country overcome its crises. He emphasized that the interests of the population must take priority over those of political parties.
In summary, he said that “when a country is in danger, our primary responsibility is to put the DRC above everything else,” stressing that this step should not be seen as a retreat from the opposition’s demands, but rather as an effort to explore all possible avenues toward lasting peace.
He also noted that a planned protest by the C64 coalition has been suspended to allow space for dialogue. However, he reaffirmed that the opposition’s core demands remain unchanged, including good governance, respect for the Constitution, and solutions to the insecurity in eastern DRC.
Although both sides have confirmed their willingness to meet in Bujumbura, no official date for the talks has yet been announced.
