A 65-year-old Burundian national, Kabura Kossan, has appeared before the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court in Dar es Salaam facing six charges, including unlawful presence in Tanzania, forging a National Identification Authority (NIDA) identity card and a voter registration card, using forged documents, and concealing the origin of proceeds of crime.
Prosecutors told the court that Kabura was arrested on July 17, 2024, while residing in Tanzania without valid immigration documents. They allege that he forged a NIDA identity card and a voter registration card bearing the name Charles Ng’andu, before presenting them to police officers as genuine documents.
He is also accused of concealing the origin of proceeds of crime, with prosecutors alleging that he used TSh 8 million to purchase 100 hectares of land in Mkuranga District, knowing that the funds were derived from unlawful activities.
Because the charge of concealing the origin of proceeds of crime is non-bailable under Tanzanian law, the court ordered that Kabura remain in custody while investigations continue. The case was adjourned to a later date.
